Frequently Asked Questions

Feline medicine is its own specialised branch of veterinary medicine. Cats have better health outcomes when they are being cared for by veterinarians who understand them and are experienced in feline practice, which is why a dedicated feline veterinarian is beneficial for your cat.
Vet clinic visits can be incredibly stressful for cats and their caregivers and this stress can affect the quality of care they receive. A mobile service, where your cat is examined and treated in the comfort of their own home, removes the stress of a clinic experience and allows your cat’s purr-sonality to show.
A mobile service is also convenient for caregivers who may not be able to attend the appointment times available at regular vet clinics.

We start by meeting your cat, offering treats and allowing them to relax. During this time, we will begin discussing your cat’s medical history and any concerns you have.
We will then conduct a thorough physical examination of your cat, including weight check, dental assessment and heart auscultation, discussing any findings with you. The exam is carried out in whichever way your cat feels most comfortable - this may be on a table, the floor, the couch or a lap, whichever they choose, with a gentle approach and plenty of treats given throughout.
We recommend cats over 7 years of age also receive a blood pressure measurement which we can perform.
If necessary, we will discuss any additional tests or treatments we recommend and complete them where possible. You will be provided with a thorough plan and any resources or referrals required to assist you and a treatment summary is emailed to you after the appointment to help you understand the plan for your cat.
See our Services page for more information on our consultations.

Yes. Every effort is made to ensure procedures such as blood collection and standard treatments can be performed comfortably at home, and most of the time they can be. Feline friendly low stress handling is always used and calming and light sedative medications are available as required. We work with your cat to determine the most comfortable way to proceed for them.
For our willing patients, we can perform:
Blood collection
Urine collection (ultrasound guided cystocentesis)
Blood pressure measurement
Some on-site tests for immediate results (see Services page for more details)
However, sometimes your cat may require care that is beyond the scope of a mobile service, such as for deeper sedation or additional procedures. In these cases a visit to your standard veterinary clinic will be recommended, with your cat’s best interests at heart. If you don’t already have a standard veterinary clinic to visit, trusted recommendations can be given.
We can provide specialist referrals for ultrasounds, echocardiograms, advanced imaging or other procedures as needed.

Absolutely – we know some cats can be challenging to medicate and this can become a daily burden when they need ongoing medication. Every cat is different and requires an individul approach, so we take the time to get to know your cat and help you with a solution that can work for them. We have lots of tips and tricks, and can provide compounded medication in flavours and treats to help. We have samples of treats on hand to help determine which flavour your cat prefers prior to ordering.
-
Yes! We have experience (and success!) treating feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). A previously fatal disease, this condition is now very much treatable and we have access to the life-saving medication, as well as the expertise, to treat and cure cats with FIP.
-
Yes, we have additional knowledge and experience managing numerous behaviour concerns in cats and provide comprehensive Behaviour Consults where we take the time to listen and complete a thorough health and behavioural assessment of your cat. A physical exam and general health assessment of your cat is performed as physical and behavioural issues can overlap, and practical advice and recommendations are given.
We can help with: general feline environmental needs, inappropriate toileting in the house, excessive vocalising, multi-cat conflict, human-directed conflict, excessive scratching and destructive behaviour, general stress and anxiety, overgrooming, ingestion of foreign material (PICA), or any other concerns you may have.
We understand the stress and frustration that can come with these experiences and we treat every situation with patience and empathy. See our Services page for more information on our Behaviour Consults.
